DSLR’s Next Step?

Posted on May 12, 2010 by Alex Fice

Sony say they are developing an APS C size sensor in a pocket camcorder. This is welcome news and probably conceived by engineers reading the REDuser forum.

The sensor looks impressive, a large APS C format 14mp with new rear illuminated chip so its is more sensitive. No word on recording  format, but if the stills camera does 1080 AVCHD then the video camera would have to be higher quality? Form factor of the mockup doesn’t looks like it comes from the stable of Sony cameras with manual controls.

It is the next step from DSLR video. DSLR video I suggest will be a blip on the development timeline of compact/pocket large sensor camcorders.

Below is the demo of the new DSLRs from Sony NEX3 and NEX5.
