Fujifilm are set to launch the new GFX ETERNA 55, the brand’s first dedicated filmmaking camera
After much anticipation, the GFX ETERNA 55 was unveiled at IBC earlier this month, taking the show by storm. The camera is an exciting addition to Fujifilm’s dynamic range, embedding the company’s rich film heritage into a digital camera.
The camera features a large-format GFX 102MP CMOS II HS sensor, approximately 1.7 times larger than a 35mm sensor. This will make it the world’s tallest large-format sensor designed for filmmaking cameras, surpassing full-frame and Super 35mm formats.
Filmmakers can also fully take advantage of the large-format sensor, measuring roughly 55mm diagonally using the 4:3 Open Gate GF format. They will also be able to choose from five different cinema formats, including Premista, 35mm, Anamorphic (35mm) and Super35. With the included PL Mount Adapter G, a wide range of professional cinema lenses can be used, giving filmmakers the flexibility to bring their creative vision to life and explore a wide variety of visual styles.
Similar to Fujifilm’s X-Series range, GFX ETERNA 55 will feature 20 Film Simulation modes. Filmmakers will also have access ten expertly crafted Film Simulation LUTs that replicate Fujifilm’s iconic film stocks in the digital format, including Velvia, ASTIA, CLASSIC CHROME and ETERNA. The camera also supports three Apple ProRes codecs: Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Apple ProRes 422, and Apple ProRes 422 LT.

Additionally, the new high speed image processing engine X-Processor 5 delivers fast performance and exceptional image quality and enables filmmakers to capture outstanding visuals. Combined with Fujifilm’s renowned colour science and refined over more than 90 years, the GFX ETERNA 55 opens up even more possibilities for rich, cinematic storytelling.
Designed for professional filmmakers, the GFX ETERNA 55 is set to be an affordable option for film shoots and will be available from October. Further information can be found on the Fujifilm website.
