Nara maximises efficiency

The evolving media management platform, Nara, helps Light Iron improve its workflow

Post-production companies are adopting the newly developed Nara to simplify information sharing and navigation. Light Iron is one such company that has selected Nara to increase accuracy, help collaboration and save time.

The creative team at Light Iron supports productions from dailies to finishing, which requires view-only access to its Storage Area Network (SAN) volumes. Previously, Light Iron used two separate programmes to navigate and view content, yet Nara has provided a single solution through one interface.

Amy Redfern, head of production for Light Iron, highlights Nara’s key features such as real-time playback of files, which allows review before client distribution. “It also reduces errors and increases accuracy by allowing users to verify the correct media before sending it out, ensuring that what we’re sending is correct.”

Collaboration is also important for Light Iron where an extensive team of colourists, online editors, visual-effects artists and software engineers rely on Nara to access media across departments. “Nara enables us to safely access file paths, distribution information, and media content across departments without compromising security,” comments Andy Kaplan, SVP of operations at Light Iron.

This same flexibility allows departments to bypass one another, when necessary, as Andrew Dale, senior DI producer at Light Iron, explains, “If a client or studio sends us a QC note about a file we have delivered, I am able to load that file remotely from my desktop and review it without having to engage other departments.”

This partnership is set to continue development as Nara incorporates more customer feedback into its product to create new, useful features.
