At Munich’s Motorworld venue, gear up for Euro Cine Expo 2025, as the show returns to bring together industry professionals and renowned brands from across the M&E sector
Words Nicola Foley
Forget Glastonbury – our hot ticket for the last weekend in June is Euro Cine Expo, Europe’s premier trade fair for production and media pros. Running from the 26th to the 28th, the event takes place at Motorworld – Munich’s impressive automotive museum – so, as well as getting hands-on with the latest production kit, you can also admire some jaw-dropping cars in the Zenith, Kesselhaus and Kohlebunker halls!
This year’s edition promises to be a cracker, with more than 100 exhibitors, 40+ symposium sessions and visitors from over 50 countries. The show floor brings together leading companies showcasing cutting-edge cameras, lighting and grip equipment – as well as pioneering tools in VP and post-production. In the Camera & Lens Zone, you can test out the latest kit and accessories in real shooting environments, with major players like Canon, Sony, Blackmagic Design, Fujinon/Fujifilm and RED in attendance. You’ll also find a host of top lighting brands, including Aputure, Godox and Kino Flo Lighting Systems.
New for 2025 is the Rental Village: a dedicated space for the industry’s top kit hire companies to show off their latest gear and expertise. Pop by to ask questions, explore new tools and take part in international discussions on the challenges and solutions facing the sector today. It’s also a great spot for relaxed networking over coffee.
Expanded show zones, meanwhile, will span the full production process – from location services through to pre- and post-production – giving visitors a chance to connect with experts across every area of filmmaking.
One of the most anticipated elements of the 2025 programme is the return of the IMAGO Technical and Educational Committees, which will lead an intensive two-day symposium across two theatres. With over a dozen sessions planned, the programme will explore everything from the evolving role of AI in cinematography to look management, colour workflows, lighting requirements and production methodologies. Designed to go beyond surface-level insight, these sessions offer in-depth technical and creative perspectives, making them truly valuable for cinematographers, gaffers, colourists, DITs, post professionals and crew alike.
Among the respected voices taking part in the symposium are academic and cinematographer Marijke Van Kets, who will share her research-driven approach to how cinematography is perceived, particularly in her work with stop-motion animation. David Stump, ASC, BVK, co-chair of the IMAGO Technical Committee, brings decades of experience across live action, VFX and immersive technologies: he’ll share insights into everything from virtual camera systems to LED volumes. Tim Kang, Aputure’s principal imaging engineer and a key figure in the ASC Motion Imaging Technology Council, will bring a technical perspective to lighting’s evolving role in modern production.
Workflow and post-production consultant Miga Bär will discuss the intersection of technology and creativity in today’s high-end content production, drawing on experience at Filmmore and Netflix. Colourist Dirk Meier, whose credits span arthouse cinema and award-winning documentaries, will share his perspectives on grading, image pipelines and post’s ever-changing landscape.
As always, Euro Cine Expo is just as much about celebrating the industry and community as it is about tech. This year’s event will culminate in the ECE Afterparty – a lively evening of music, drinks and networking that will bring attendees together. The night will also host the Film & TV Awards, Women in Cinematography Awards and ECE Recognition Awards, recognising outstanding work and leadership across the industry.
