James Cameron joins the Board of Directors at Stability AI

Posted on Nov 16, 2024 by Samara Husbands

Stability AI has appointed visionary filmmaker James Cameron to its board, aiming to revolutionise visual media

As part of its mission to ‘transform visual media for the next century’, Stability AI has recruited visionary filmmaker James Cameron to its board of directors. Best known for its text-to-image model Stable Diffusion, Stability AI’s open models are the most widely used foundational image models around the globe, responsible for powering up to 80% of AI-generated imagery.

Cameron has a history of merging new technology with storytelling; pioneering VFX and innovative techniques in iconic films like Avatar and The Terminator – so we’re intrigued to see what comes from this match-up.

“I’ve spent my career seeking out emerging technologies that push the very boundaries of what’s possible, all in the service of telling incredible stories,” he comments. “I was at the forefront of CGI over three decades ago and have since remained on the cutting edge. The intersection of generative AI and CGI image creation is the next wave. The convergence of these totally different engines of creation will unlock methods for artists to tell stories in ways we never could’ve imagined. Stability AI is poised to lead this transformation, and I’m delighted to collaborate with Sean, Prem and the entire team as they shape the future of visual media.”
