Posted on Dec 21, 2015 by Alex Fice
The wide-ranging programme, totalling over 75 hours of content, covers the latest production issues and technological trends as well as exploring the connected world and multi-platform content, with speakers from organisations including Raindance Film Festival, BBC, Channel 4, Sky, BFI, Vimeo and Fremantle Media.
The Producers’ Theatre covers topics ranging from production planning and development to business advice. During the panel ‘How can a better location assist the budget? TV, Film and Commercials’, visitors will hear from Location Managers Harriet Lawrence (Suffragette) and James Grant (Skyfall) on the options for European co-productions, the importance of location versus story and tax and filming incentives available.
‘Live! Ammunition!’ returns to offer up-and-coming screenwriters a chance to pitch ideas for a movie to a panel moderated by Elliott Grove, Founder, Raindance Film Festival and British Independent Film Awards. This is a live competition open to anyone with £5 in their pocket – competitors must convince the panel to watch their film or read their screenplay, and the panel will confer and pick a winner for the best pitch. The winner takes the pot, but more importantly the competitors and audience will pick up valuable tips on pitching.
The Producers’ Theatre also features content from the digital age, recognising that high quality content is no longer exclusive to broadcast and film. YouTube Megastar Tom Ridgewell, AKA TomSka will hold a session on ‘Monetising beyond YouTube’ offering budding content creators insight into popular online platforms for funding as well as digitally distributing work online.
Other highlights taking place throughout the week in The Producers’ Theatre sees BVE’s Commissioning sessions make a return, with advice from commissioners from Channel 4/All 4 Shorts, Sky, Channel 5 and BBC about what they are looking for in new shows and the benefits of understanding the strategic brand identity of TV and digital platforms for creative new dramas. Jamie Berry, Series Producer, Walking the Nile will also be making an appearance, discussing the fine lines between subjective and objective documentary film making and the formats that work.
Elsewhere on the show floor, the 4K Theatre has reinvented itself as ‘The Screen @ BVE’, housing keynote speakers including Jon Page, Head of Operations, BBC R&D, VFX Executive Producer Jordan Soles and an interview with BAFTA winning Director, Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Great Expectations, Mona Lisa Smile, Prince of Persia). Attendees to ‘The Screen @ BVE’ will also have the chance to take in an interview with Glen Freemantle, Oscar Winning Sound Designer and Supervising Sound Editor at Sound24 Ltd (Everest, Gravity, Ex-Machina, Steve Jobs).
‘The Screen’ will also be taking a look at one of the hottest topics in the industry at the moment with the panel discussion ‘The Internet Protocol Revolution: Is it all its set up to be?’. Chairing the panel is renowned industry expert Larry Jordan, with panellists including Martin Featherstone, Expert at HowtoAV, Dan Bennett, Managing Director, Absolute Post and Peter Schut, Chief Technological Officer, Axon TV. Panellists will examine advantages and barriers to IP integration and discuss the IP workflow solution and what this means for production switches to communicate with cameras and other video sources.
