Classic ND filter line replaces outdated tech

Posted on Jan 31, 2023 by Samara Husbands

The new line of Classic ND filters allows filmmakers to control filming in the harshest lighting conditions

The Schneider Group specialises in the development, production and manufacturing of high-performance lenses and filter systems for the industrial, film and photo sectors.

Classic ND, Schneider-Kreuznach’s new natural density filter collection will supersede the current ND line, effective from 31 March 2023. Its portfolio includes eight neutral density filters with a range of 10 stops, available in the densities 0.3 to 2.1 and 3.0.

Neutral density filters are an excellent tool in a filmmaker’s arsenal – they help control the amount of light hitting the sensor independent from the aperture. Essentially, this allows filmmakers to control the depth of field with the aperture, even in the brightest of conditions.

Consisting of a single specially coated filter glass, the Classic ND filters offer the highest possible colour accuracy throughout. This is true for all stops and in between different batches and enables flexible filter stacking while reducing the colour grading time.

The new filter collection is coated for 380-780nm, so its effect reaches from visible light up into the near-infrared spectrum. Subsequently, infrared pollution is greatly reduced. A special multi-resistant, anti-reflection coating complements the characteristics of Classic ND.
