Choose a song, make a film

Musicbed’s short film competition is back – offering you a chance to win a share of $100K in grants and gear

Advertorial in partnership with Musicbed

Musicbed believes that pairing the right music with the right moving picture can create a moment that changes everything. It is an appreciation that lives at the heart of the Musicbed Challenge – an annual filmmaking competition designed to push filmmakers towards creating powerful breakthrough experiences.

For this year’s competition, filmmakers will have just 30 days to submit a film that fits into one of the following categories: Narrative, Spec Ad or Documentary. Additionally, entrants must use music from a pre-selected Musicbed playlist and make a film with a runtime between 30 seconds and ten minutes. The top prize in all three categories is a $15,000 film grant and a goody bag of high-end creative tools and assets.

Candidates also have the chance to win the People’s Choice award, which includes a $5000 film grant and gear bundle. Voting for this will run from 13 May until 27 May. Winners in all categories will be announced by Musicbed on 7 June.

Ready to rise to the challenge? Submissions open on 12 April and close on 10 May. Download the starter kit now and show the world what you’re made of – you might just win big. Good luck!

The Judges

This year’s judging panel of industry-leading directors and DOPs are some of the best and brightest in the business. They’ll be scoring submissions based on the craft, song, storytelling and creativity of each piece.

The Categories

Narrative

Powerful fiction is built on a foundation of truth. Even the most fantastic stories benefit from grounded, universal themes. If you can reveal the inner lives of your characters and make their journey matter, then your path might just end in victory.

Past winner: Scarecrow by Jake Viramontez

Spec ad/promo

Every ad has an angle. What’s yours? How will you break through the noise to connect with the customer? Showcase a brand or product with your unique perspective, and if the judges buy what you’re selling, the prize may be yours.

Past winner: Memento Mori by Howard Hendrix Powell

Documentary

The best documentaries don’t simply tell a story. They tell the story. Shine a light on the struggles, strengths and singular subjects that often go overlooked. In this category, keeping it real is the only way to win.

Past winner: Meet Me at The Stairs by Jess Hunt
