BSC Expo 2025: London calling

Posted on Feb 13, 2025 by Admin

BSC Expo is back for another exciting year, promising a hoard of product releases and high-impact events. We set the stage for what to expect from this annual fixture

Words Katie Kasperson

Tell your valentine not to wait up – the BSC Expo returns to Evolution London on 14 and 15 February. Hosted by the British Society of Cinematographers, this annual exhibition is a leading destination for film, television and video production professionals. With tons to do during the event’s two days (as well as an exclusive evening reception to kick things off), attendees can learn about the latest tech, refresh their skills and meet potential creative partners. Often used as a launching pad for new kit, the Expo also encourages attendees to get their hands on products before they’ve officially hit the market.

Tucked away in London’s Battersea Park, BSC Expo won’t leave your feet aching from aimlessly wandering the halls. With just two rooms of booths and stages, plus a balcony and outdoor area, the industry packs into the 5500 sq m event space; by design, colleagues and confidants are brought closer together.

As always, BSC Expo has a packed agenda in store, with panels and demos delivered by both cinematographers and exhibitors. This year, attendees can hear from Barry Ackroyd, BSC; Catherine Goldschmidt, BSC; Sean Bobbitt, BSC and Nicola Daley, BSC, ACS, who all began their careers in documentary, moving into scripted drama since. Moderated by Mike Eley, BSC, the discussion will focus on transferable ‘skills, instincts and attitudes’ that apply to both genres.

Elsewhere, Aputure – which is making waves with its BLAIR and BLAIR-CG light engines – will host a presentation on lighting colour technology, beginning with remarks from Tim Kang, chair of the ASC Lighting Committee. From there, the conversation will widen into a round table featuring DOPs, gaffers and other specialists, moderated by Ben Dynice. Attendees can expect additional panels from FilmLight (The Look Behind Award-Winning Vermiglio), Sony, RED, Blackmagic Design and more.

Budding cinematographers might be more interested in The New Generation, a panel with Bani Mendy, Evelin van Rei, NSC, Ebba Hult and Jon Muschamp. Led by Tim Palmer, BSC, these four cinematographers will share how they started and where they’ve gone since.

When you’ve got downtime, cover as much ground as you can, visiting the stands and seeing what exhibitors have on show. From recent releases to flagship products, we’ve compiled a list of where to stop and why. Registration for BSC Expo is free – sign up while you’ve still got the chance, and we’ll see you there!
