JVC’s GY-HM70 records full 1920×1080 using the AVCHD codec but has options up to 250fps.

JVC has announced the launch of the new JVC GY-HM70 shoulder mounted camcorder for the videography market. But videographer camcorders have come along way and the HM70 offers a 16x f1.2 ‘Bright’ lens, full HD recording – 1920×1080/50p – and the use of their Falconbrid processor currently inhabiting their 4k camera. Sensor is of the 1/2.3-inch 12 Megapixel back-illuminated CMOS kind.

The camera also includes special features such as High-Speed recording up to 250 Frames/Sec but at a lower resolution, and Interval recording in steps from 1 second up to 80 seconds and still image shooting up to 4k x 3k pixels is also possible. You can shoot stills in 12Megapixel Ultra High Resolution, while stills and video can be shot simultaneously in 2Megapixel resolution.

SDHC/SDXC cards are the recording media of choice for the AVCHD and the camera recorder’s dual card slots let you bridge recording on to the other card in slot B as per normal these days.

The GY-HM70 has been equipped with dual battery mounts and they are also hot swappable. This means you can keep exchanging batteries without interrupting the shoot.

Other features include an onboard Optical Image Stabiliser, a 3.0-inch 230K Touch Panel LCD, a 0.24-inch 260K Viewfinder, an Internal Stereo Microphone, a Manual Operation Button, and a range of terminals including HDMI Out, AV Out, Headphone Out, USB, Mic In, as well as a Remote connection. But not XLR connections.

The camera will be available in May, but they’re taking orders now, and the price will be only £1,200 plus VAT.

The new JVC HM-GY70, mostly for the videography market and to compete with Panasonic’s AC90 camcorder.
