Post production company, Wash, has announced its move to a central London facility as it looks to improve its offering, and diversify into more long form work and visual effects.

Relocating to new premises in Farringdon, 4K Dolby Vision mastering topped the list of technical requirements. The aim was to design and build a facility that would allow Wash to continue providing clients, current and new, with a state of the art experience.

“We have got to the point where we are taking on more and more work, and the jobs are getting bigger and bigger. Alongside our commercial work, we completed our third long-form feature at the end of 2018, and wanted to pave the way for more of that in 2019 and beyond,” begins founder Jon Dobson.

Wash has also added a new suite to include 4K Dolby Vision Mastering. “It’s good to diversify and offer that capability now. We have invested a significant amount of time and money in supporting HDR workflows.”

“In the long run, it should pave the way to taking on Netflix productions and other similar work while ensuring our existing client base can benefit.”

The HDR suite is running DaVinci Resolve on an HP Z8 G4 workstation and incorporates Titan graphics cards as well as the DeckLink 8K I/O card. The investment also includes a set of DaVinci Resolve Advanced Panels and the latest EIZO ColorEdge CG3145 for HDR monitoring.

Wash now have four suites running on f HP workstations and iMac Pros, they opted for direct attached SAS RAID storage for each system to support 8K playback in real-time.

“With the continued integration of Fusion alongside an expanding set of NLE and audio capabilities, the idea of doing more in Resolve is appealing. We see tremendous potential to grow our VFX offering in the next two years, and it is an area we want to expand upon, with Fusion being an extended part of a collaborative workflow.”

“In less than two years, Wash has grown from a one-man band to what you see today. I’m not sure I ever thought we’d grow this quickly. At half the cost of other systems, it was DaVinci Resolve that helped me to start out on my own and its scalability has been essential to our growth.”
